What is aVCheck?

VCheck is the authority in Australian Vehicle Checks. An established, Australian based business providing PPSR checks for private vehicle sales and dealer vehicle sales. We use the official government database with live, real-time data from Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA).

What is a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)?

A VIN is a vehicles identification number which is the unique identifying code for a specific vehicle. No two vehicles will have the same VIN.

Should I get a VCheck if I am buying from a Private Seller or Motor Dealer?

Unfortunately, some private sellers and motor dealers will do the wrong thing and you could potentially suffer financial loss. The only way to protect yourself is to do a VCheck on the day you purchase and pick up the vehicle. Prior to this day, anyone can take out finance on the vehicle and then you don’t really own the vehicle. The finance company with the encumbrance over it can take it from you at any time. Motor Dealers have also been known to hide the fact the vehicle is a previously written-off vehicle by not disclosing and supplying a PPSR certificate until after you have picked up the vehicle or hiding the PPSR in your other paperwork.

Where can I find the VIN?

The VIN can be found in many places, both on the vehicle and on paperwork. On the vehicle, it can be located under the bonnet on the build or compliance plate, outside under the windscreen on a VIN plate or inside one of the doors on the door jamb. You could also get the VIN from registration or insurance paperwork.

What is the PPSR?

The PPSR stands for Personal Property and Securities Register. VCheck, under agreement, uses the official PPSR register for VIN checks. We use live,real-time data from Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA). Don’t risk a PPSR check from any other website that might not be legitiimate.

What is a PPSR Certificate?

A PPSR certificate is an Australia-wide check for financial encumbrances against a vehicle. VCheck is your legitimate site for a reliable, PPSR check using official real-time government data. It is your protection against buying a vehicle with potential problems.

My PPSR Certificate is blank and does not seem to have any vehicle information?

If your PPSR certificate does not contain a result for Finance Encumbrance, written-off or stolen information or NEVDIS vehicle data as per our SAMPLE REPORT page then you could have input the incorrect VIN. Double check the VIN and redo the VCheck and if the result is the same then contact us.

What is NEVDIS and NEVDIS data?

NEVDIS stands for the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System, which is a national system that exchanges vehicle information and driver licenses. It’s primary purpose is tp prevent fraud and ensuring one vehicle, one VIN policy.

What are the possible consequences for not getting a PPSR VCheck?

If you buy a private sale vehicle without obtaining a PPSR VCheck, you could be purchasing a vehicle that the seller does not legitimately have the rights to on sell. If the vehicle has a current Financial Encumbrance at the time you purchase it, and the debt is not paid out, the finance company could potentially legally take the vehicle from you at any time.

When should I buy a VCheck?

You should get a VCheck on the day you pay for and pick up your vehicle. If you get it prior to this day, you run the risk of the seller taking out finance on it between when you do the check and when you legally own the vehicle. You could then have a massive problem costing you everything you have paid.

Can I get a Vehicle check for a pre-1989 vehicle?

Currently, VCheck does not provide PPSR and NEVDIS checks for pre-1989 vehicles. These vehicles will have a chassis ID that is not 17 characters. Post 1989 vehicles will have a 17 character VIN and are searchable through VCheck.

What if I entered the wrong VIN?

If you entered the wrong VIN, your report will not contain any information on the vehicle. Your report will not have any NEVDIS vehicle data or information on Financial Encumbrance, written-off or stolen information. You should double check the VIN and do another search. If you believe you have entered the correct VIN, please contact us with your details.
